The Covenant Project: Achieve Learning and Fun Through Gamification

The Covenant Project attempts to answer the question: How can one learn better through play? It has been said that only children benefit from learning through play. I disagree. My belief is that everybody can achieve the best learning outcomes through play and exploration. ‘Project Covenant’ is all about creating an ecosystem that allows Curriculum Developers, Trainers, Learners and Edutainment companies and Businesses to collaborate and achieve positive outcomes for all.

In Phase 1 of Project Covenant, the scope covers a Use Case to provide validation on the deployment of the story-telling and gamification pedagogies to engage learners. in this pilot, the subject of the learning is ‘Identifying and overcoming challenges in Organisational Transformation’. Specifically, the learning zooms in on the exploration of saboteurs that occur in the workplace, especially in large-scale transformation projects.

Covenant uses a narrative told through a series of Blogs to connect with learners through workplace scenarios by Day, and switching identities to become a medieval hero at night through dreams.

Learners are encouraged to derive their own insights by identifying their own organisational challenges through the personification. They progress and unlock new characters and powers to overcome these fiends, and mint their personal NFTs in the process. The content is provided on a ‘Pull-Basis’ which increases motivation and autonomy in seeking out them out. Learners are able to play a specially crafted game to consolidate their learning, and experience a sense of ‘levelling-up’ through unlocking achievements which they can then share with fellow learners in the community.

In this experimental approach, the learner watches a video about the topic and is required to provide observations and engage in a gamified experience thereafter. The intent is to increase engagement and create higher recall.
